Weed Seeds: The Test of Time

The world's longest-running experiment is buried in a secret spot in Michigan. In 1879, botanist William James Beal buried 20 bottles, each filled with seeds of 23 different common weeds. Beal, as a teacher at Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University) influenced hundreds of botany and horticultural students, including LIberty Hyde Bailey. The article below is from the American Horticultural Society's magazine, "The American Gardner ".
