Opening June 2 Bailey’s Backyard
The Bailey Museum is opening a new exhibition that is hands-on and family oriented. Bailey’s Backyard: a pathway into the natural world draws on the children’s book Nature All Year Long by artist Clare Walker Leslie.
This new show begins June 3 at 2:00 and will run through September 23 and is free of charge.
Museum director, Michael Fiedorowicz said, “This exhibition is a new direction for the museum, it is the first time we have created a hands-on show for children. Anne Long, who curated the show, has employed her teaching skills to make an engaging experience.”
Bailey’s Backyard will include the story of the seasonal cycle of animals and plants. Each colorful picture panel will depict the ways animals stay warm over winter, what plants bloom in spring, and how the cycle repeats.
Visitors to the show will find tables with activities for kids including a leaf and bark rubbing station, a slice of a tree to study age rings, floor puzzles, a sand table to make animal tracks, an opportunity to make a terrarium, a bird’s nest, and pencils and paper for bookmaking or journaling.
Copies of Clare Walker Leslie’s book, Nature All Year Long, will be on sale at the museum.
This program is made possible with support from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and The National Endowment for the Arts.
The Bailey Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 9 a.m until 4 p.m. Admission is free. For more information please contact The Bailey Museum at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 269-637-3251.
